Learning is the key to success. And as dividend growth investors, we are familiar with compound interest. The same goes for learning.
If we improve our investing mind each day with the rate of 1%, we will be almost 38 times better in one year (1.01^365=~37.7). In the other end, if we would think that improving slowly is just useless, and we’d concentrated to improve ourselves by 20% by focusing on one day per month solely on the topic of investing, we would be only bit under 9 times better in one year.
The difference is huge! Due to those reason, I’ll try to learn something new every day.
Podcasts
For me, the most comfortable and easiest way has been podcasts. I usually go for long walks of around 1-2 hours and listening to podcasts makes the walks highlight of my day. It helps me keep my mind fresh while my body gets the needed workout.
Here’s some podcasts I have been listening to.
Dividend Talk
This is my favourite podcast. When I started to listen to investing podcasts, they were always focused in the US markets. And there’s only certain amount of time you can listen about Tesla, Apple and Microsoft… As a result, I started looking for a investing podcast with focus in Europe. And Dividend Talk is just that. It’s two normal guys talking about dividend growth investing with European flavor. They aren’t playing sensational tricks to attract listeners. They are entertaining and informational, and therefore delightful to listen. I’d recommend them to anyone.
Investing by the Books
This is a bit different podcast. It’s by Redeye, Nordic analysis firm, with nice go-throughs of investing and sometimes indirectly related books. There has been books about i.e. Warren Buffet, and then about golfing with a close (although indirect) link to investing. They also sometimes have guests on the show who share quite insightful information.
Wall Street Breakfast
This podcast offers short roundups on current events. It’s a nice way to keep current on what’s happening right now. Due to it’s short nature, around 5 minutes, I usually listen to it while walking to the train or grocery store. And the podcast is by Seeking Alpha.
Motley Fool Money
This is quite general investing podcast focused in US market. It does contain bit more sensational things, but is more laid back on that front than Motley Fool’s other podcasts. It’s pretty enjoyable when there’s no new Dividend Talk episodes available.
Rahapodi
Okay, I can’t forget the first investment podcast I started to listen. It was Rahapodi (Moneypod[cast]). It’s a Finnish podcast by Nordnet. It’s quite general investing podcast with focus in long term with low cost index funds or ETFs. It’s a nice podcast to learn rules of compound interest, but I can only recommend it to Finnish speakers. And after a while, it might feel a bit repetitive.
And that’s it for this time. I’ll try to keep on posting semi-regularily to keep myself accountable.
